WELCOME TO THE COURSE!
In order for any online course to be effective, it is important that you understand the difference between theory vs. practice. Theory assumes an outcome, while practice allows you to test the theory and see if it is accurate. In other words, education is NOT just learning theory. It is also about applying the theory in practice, and repeatedly refining that practice until what you are learning becomes second nature (i.e until it becomes natural to you.)
A current problem in education is the separation between theory and practice – having one without the other will result in less effective learning. What we want to do in this course is to provide as much of the theory as possible in the form of online content. This content can be studied and reviewed as often as it takes, and at the pace of each respective student. Our job as educators is to then focus on each student’s “learning breakdowns” (i.e. the parts of the lesson and content that each of you are having difficulty understanding or applying practically.)
It is with this idea in mind that we provided the foundational grammar points for students to study and reference. This allows us as teachers to use our interactive lessons to focus on helping each of you to understand the mistakes (i.e. learning breakdowns) made in writing and speaking. Your job is to utilize the feedback and learn from your mistakes.
A candidate’s range AND accuracy in English are two major concerns of IELTS examiners. One of our objectives in this course is to bridge the separation that often occurs between theory (range) and practice (accuracy) by making sure our teachers increase your accuracy by addressing your learning breakdowns. The range of your English is often provided in a classroom setting with theory, while the accuracy in the application of your English improves with diligence and persistence.
